Choosing a prom dress for your body shape
Hourglass
An hourglass figure has curves in all the right places and is very feminine, so choose a dress that flatters your beautiful shape. Pick a dress that accentuates your waist, like a mermaid dress – where it fits closely to the body through the torso and hips and then flares out to the floor.
Triangle / Pear
This is when your hips are wider than your bustline. A fitted strapless or halter neck bodice is a great option, complemented by an A-line skirt.
Apple
An apple shape has a large bust and a waist that is not well defined – so focus the attention on the bust and away from the waist. A-line or empire line long prom dresses are a great choice for an apple shape, as are deep V necklines and strapless options.
Inverted triangle
Narrow hips and a broad upper body define this body shape so try and create a defined waist and keep the attention away from the shoulders. Short prom dresses (but not too short) are great as your bottom part is more slender than the top - and go for a split if you dare!
Rectangle
This body type is proportionate from the top to the bottom, without too much definition, and luckily you can wear pretty much anything! Asymmetrical styling would look great on this body shape to add some interest, as would a deep V neckline, a cinched waist or some ruffles.
